Page Comment: Getting to the Root of Problem Solving

2009-06-27 03:20:08 - SilenceDoGoodGauge - The Bucky Fuller Connection

The "Getting to the Root of Problem Solving" post originated from an entry I developed on the Global Sensemaking blog. Shortly after posting on the GSM, Robert Beckett replied expressing a likeness to Richard Buckminster "Bucky" Fuller's geodicic design and concepts. Up until receiving Robert Beckett's comments, the name Bucky Fuller had not stuck in my mind.

The funny thing is that I grew up in East Alton, Illinois, where I could see one of Bucky Fuller's largest designs, the Wood River Train Dome, from the backyard. Also in the St. Louis metro area is Shaw's Botanical Garden Climatron designed by Fuller. I do remember vaguely a recent article or local television program which describe Fuller's concept to turn East St. Louis Illinois into a doomed city.

Another discovery of Bucky was his relationship to to Southern Illinois University of Carbondale. I was a computer science graduate at the sister university in Edwardsville where he designed the Religious Center Dome.

Some may call me dense for not absorbing an association of Fuller. Thank goodness to Wikipedia for providing an extensive biography of Fuller, for the many internet sources listing Fuller's life accomplishments, and to Robert Beckett for providing the motivation to open my eyes.
